Nationally Accredited First Aid Courses

Frequently Asked Questions

Is FirstAidPro nationally recognised and accredited?

Yes, FirstAidPro is a nationally recognised RTO operated by Sharon McCulloch (RTO #31124), which is fully accredited to provide first aid training according to the ASQA guidelines for Training and Assessment. The content of our courses are laid out in the guidelines of the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC), and the course content is equivalent to, and generally more comprehensive than equivalent courses on the market. Upon successfully completing your course, you will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment, with the name and official course codes of each of the units you have completed.

Is the zoom online first aid course nationally recognised and accredited?

Yes, our Zoom training is fully accredited and recognised throughout Australia in all states and territories. The certificates we provide are no different from those attained through a traditional face-to-face course, and are acceptable in all professional contexts where first aid training is required.

Is Prior Learning from other first aid training providers, regardless of state or territory it was completed in, also recognised by FirstAidPro?

As an official Australian RTO, FirstAidPro offers Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for the units of competence or qualification you have attained. You can apply for RPL at any point, but we recommend that you do so before your training session officially commences. If you’d like more information on applying for RPL, please have a look at our Booking Terms & Conditions.

Are there age restrictions when taking first aid courses?

At FirstAidPro, we believe everyone should learn the skills to save a life where possible. Although there are a few restrictions on age and physical capability, children as young as 14 years old are eligible to take part in our training courses – with parental consent, of course. Adults aged 18+ are eligible to enrol at any age, provided they can physically meet the training demands, including performing two minutes of continuous CPR to a manikin while kneeling on the floor.

How will the new Approved Code of Practice for First Aid in the workplace effective 10th December 2010 affect my responsibility as an employer?

The Code of Practice lays the responsibility of keeping employees and others safe from injury and health risks on the shoulders of the employer (and the self-employed).

The number of designated first aid staff required on duty in your workplace depends on the type of workplace and the level of risk at the site. Under the code of practice, designated first aid personnel must be officially certified in first aid – holding a current statement of attainment or nationally recognised qualification in first aid.

Does my employer need to train us in first aid?

The aspects of first aid that each employer needs to address in their OH&S policies are outlined in the Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Act 1986. It is a legal requirement of employers to make sure their workplace has appropriate first aid support, and that employees receive immediate medical attention when required.

What if my employer says I need Apply First Aid HLTFA311A, HLTFA301B, HLTFA301C, LEVEL 2 Or Senior First Aid. Is ‘Provide First Aid’ the correct course for me?

Yes, HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is the current industry standard for workplace training, superseding the HLTAID003 course, Senior First Aid, and all the older qualifications listed above. Any context which requires one of the above qualifications should accept HLTAID011 in it’s place. The course also includes the HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support (BELS) qualifications as part of the course.

What if I work in Child Care or as a Teacher, will HLTAID011 or HLTAID012 be accepted by ACECQA and DECD?

The HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting certificate is designed to provide teachers, educators and childcare workers with all the first aid skills legally required for their role. HLTAID011 is a more general qualification – completing that qualification will provide most of the needed skills, but you may need to do some additional training around anaphylaxis and asthma to be entirely up to speed with first aid training for a teacher or educator.

FirstAidPro is an official Australian RTO, and fully accredited to provide ACECQA and DECD approved training.

Is the new HLTAID011 Provide First Aid the same as completing Senior First Aid?

The HLTAID011 is the updated industry standard, so it’s actually more comprehensive than the Senior First Aid course. Completing the course successfully will earn you a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment that should be recognised wherever Senior First Aid is required. The qualification is good for 3 years – with the exception of the CPR component of the course, which much be renewed every 12 months to remain current.

Is there also a first aid course for asthma-related cases?

Asthma is covered in both the HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and the HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting courses.

Are your CPR courses and Provide First Aid courses the same as Red Cross – First Aid Training and St Johns First Aid?

Yes. Training packages such as HLTAID009, HLTAID011, and HLTAID012 are laid out by the government (more specifically, by the National Register on Vocational Education and Training), rather than by a specific RTO. FirstAidPro’s first aid training is equally recognised and fully equivalent to the training provided by the Red Cross and St Johns First Aid. We’re also fully compliant with the standards of the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC).

FirstAidPro is a 100% Australian owned and operated RTO, and our trainers are highly qualified training professionals with years of experience. And our content is kept entirely up to date and in line with current standards by our expert compliance team.

Getting Your First Aid Training Certificates

Looking for an online first aid cert? Get accredited today.

When do I receive my first aid certificate?

Your nationally recognised first-aid certificate will generally be made available within 24 hours of successfully completing your first aid course – sometimes on the same day. The certificate is provided to you as a digital file – provided all conditions of your course are finalised (including payment and provision of your USI number).

FirstAidPro can provide a full-colour, printed hard copy of your certificate upon request, although additional charges will be incurred for printing and postage. You can find more information on our Certificate Terms & Conditions page.

Do I receive an online first aid certificate?

Yes. Your certificate will be emailed to you as a PDF document, which can be digitally stored, printed out, submitted with online applications, or emailed to potential employers as you require. It will also be available for download through your online student portal. So if the original file is misplaced or destroyed by equipment failure, you can easily log on and download it again.

What is a USI and how do I get one?

Since 2015, all students who undertake nationally recognised training within Australia require a Unique Student Identifier number or USI. This number is linked to you personally – similar to a tax file number – and used to keep track of the training you have undertaken and completed within Australia. Any training institution (including FirstAidPro) providing you with accredited training will require this number. You must have provided this number to us before we can issue your certificate.

If you don’t currently have a USI number, you can get one quite quickly – you just need to head to the USI website and provide some details. The process should generally only take a few minutes. You can get more information from the website, including video instructions on getting a USI.

FirstAidPro cannot provide you with a USI – this is a legal piece of identification that you need to obtain personally.

How do I get a Wallet Card certificate and reprint for lost or damaged certificates?

Many worksites now recognise wallet card certificates – they’re a convenient way to carry your First Aid certification with you at all times. These can be purchased from FirstAidPro at the cost of $5 plus postage. This can be sent along with printed certificated to save on overall postage. Simply get in touch with us to arrange this.

Delivery times for wallet cards and certificates are dependent on Australia Post and not within FirstAidPro’s control.

When, Where & How First Aid Training is Conducted

Where can I get an online first aid course near me?

Although our Zoom courses are sometimes listed by region, when you participate in a Zoom training session, you choose your location – at home, at your office, or anywhere with a good internet connection and some floor space to work with.

When do classes run?

Zoom courses run at various times throughout the week – you can check our calendar for an up-to-date listing of courses & times. Or you can simply contact us for more details.

Where is the training conducted, and is there available parking?

Zoom training is conducted entirely online over the internet, so you can participate from the comfort of your own office or home – meaning location and parking simply aren’t an issue.

Is there any studying or online assessment required before attending my first aid course?

Yes, the Zoom format course includes both a self-paced online learning component and a live face-to-face Zoom training session. Before your Zoom session commences, you must have worked through the self-paced online learning component of the course (available through your online student portal), and completed the online pre-quiz and learning assessment. This content will be assumed knowledge for your live Zoom training session, so you will not be admitted to the Zoom session unless your online assessments are marked as complete on our system.

Can I do an online first aid course Australia wide?

Yes, you can participate in Zoom training from any location in Australia, provided you have a stable internet connection. This means people in all Australian states and territories can participate, and that it’s well suited to remote locations – as there’s no need to travel to a regional training centre. Although depending on where you are, you may want to allow plenty of lead time between when you book and when your Zoom session takes place – to allow for the delivery of your training resources.

Can I have the first aid course conducted at my workplace?

Zoom training can be conducted anywhere you have the equipment to run Zoom and space to participate in the session and demonstrate skills. If you have the facilities and the room, there’s nothing to prevent one or more staff members from taking part in Zoom training from your workplace. FirstAidPro can even tailor your training to highlight specific workplace accidents and injuries or address particular requirements of your workplace.

What are the necessary room requirements if first aid training is done at my choice venue?

Whichever location you choose to take part in your Zoom training, you’ll require a Zoom capable device, a comfortable place to sit, and an area of clear floor space to demonstrate practical skills (such as CPR) for your trainer (this will need to be an area you can angle your Zoom camera towards).

What are the things to bring and clothes to wear for my first aid training course?

On the day of your Zoom training, make sure all the equipment from your Training Resource pack (which we’ll deliver to you some days before your Zoom session date) is available and ready to use – this includes inflating all manikins before the session starts.

Although you may be at home for your Zoom session, your video feed will be broadcast to the trainer and students – meaning effectively you’re out in public. The training also involves some degree of physical movement and activity. As such, wear near, practical clothing you can move about freely in. Try to avoid clothing that can expose the body as you move around – such as loose tops, singlets, or short-shorts.

How To Book & Pay

How do I enrol in first aid courses?

If you’re hoping to book into one of our Zoom first aid courses, you can do so directly from the course calendar – which lists the specific courses we have on offer, along with dates, times and prices. If you have any problems, give us a call on (08) 8382 4677 during business hours and we can help!

May I still undertake first aid training course when I possess special needs?

Normally. The training does have some physical movement requirements you’ll need to be capable of performing – but FirstAidPro is committed to making our training as accessible as possible. To talk through any concerns and discuss any assistance you might need for taking part in the course, please contact us via email when you book, or call us directly on (08) 8382 4677.

When and how do I make my payment?

Fees are usually paid by credit card when booking your course – either electronically via the internet or over the phone. All payments are protected by EWAY to ensure your card and finances are kept secure.

If a payment is rejected or not received, it may result in the release of your first aid certificate being delayed until payment is resolved (as specified in our guidelines). If you have any problems or questions, you can contact us to discuss them.

How do I go about making a booking for group training or a course for our employees?

Our training can accommodate groups of up to 15 students at one time. And, of course, there’s nothing to prevent you from booking a larger group across multiple zoom sessions. To discuss group bookings for your workplace or community group and see what discounts are available, have a look at the group bookings page, or contact us directly. For workplaces that have booked sufficiently ahead of time, we can provide a 14-day trading account. Pre-payment can be handled through bank deposit or via credit card over the phone or the internet.

Is there any sort of guarantee with your training?

Definitely. As a fully accredited Australian RTO, we are regulated by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and have policies and procedures for refunds, appeals and complaints.

If you’re unsatisfied with the results of your training, or you wish to contest a decision made by a trainer, we have procedures in place to do so. FirstAidPro strives to be the best first aid training organisation possible, but we know that things don’t always go as planned. That’s why we provide a money-back guarantee that you’ll be satisfied with the training we provide. Some conditions do apply, of course!
